 Bio

After leaving the city of Charleston, which provided so many opportunities to study and play both classical music and other genres of music, Ellie Jos attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. During her four years there, she earned a bachelors of violin performance under Kevin Lawrence, played in orchestra and opera orchestras, and studied chamber music, while taking all standard music classes and some academics. After graduation, she went to University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and studied violin performance under Sally O'Reilly-during that time, Ellie also became certified in the Suzuki Program under Mark Bjork. After graduating and moving back to Charleston, she started  a private studio at Hungry Monk Music at Fox Music. Currently, she teaches there as well as in West Ashley and James Island. Ellie holds a tenured position in the South Carolina Philharmonic in Columbia, a member of North Charleston and subs with some other orchestras. When she's not teaching or playing classical music, she can be found playing in bands in Charleston that play bluegrass, rock and roll, country, Irish and Americana music.
